The Homeschool Mother's Journal - 5

In my life this week..
A busy week for sure, every night this week somebody was doing something.  I am continuing to clean, maintaining the progress I've made so far.  Reading 31 Days to Clean has given me a new perspective on homekeeping.

In our homeschool this week...
Finally, we completed schoolwork five days in a row, and I don't feel like killing anyone.  The flexible schedule and the pared down curriculum have really been the key to success for Zippy.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...
Softball season is upon us again.  The husband plays for the church team.  Zippy is going to games with her little clipboard to record the stats for the game.  So she is learning about softball and statistics.

My favorite thing this week was...
Crepes.  Tasty and thanks to all the great reader comments Zippy is on top of the cooking world.  Today we are trying a new dish. I'll let you know how it goes.

What's working/not working for us...
The new flexible schedule is definitely working for us. I have spent most of my  time in the last couple of months necessarily focused on Zippy.  I want to try to fit in some structured time with The Little Dude.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...
I have been thinking a lot about what homeschool is and isn't.  My idea of "school" is changing from a day away from the world in the classroom learning from books to a day of experiences.

  1. I like that phrase: a day of experiences. Friday my girls just read or were read to, no math or writing. I am learning to be ok with those kind of days, too.

  2. Love the photo. :)

I've been thinking recently, too, about what homeschool really is -- and isn't. It's so easy to just fall into replicating the classroom at home, and that's not at all what I want to do...
